As I am currently serving in a small congregation which is located in an area saturated with street vendors, drug addicts, street people and thieves. There are about 86 people officially on the roster, representing Venezuela and several countries in the West Indies and Africa. Life is not easy in Venezuela for anyone. The Pastor must divide his time and energy between working as an English teacher, his pastoral duties, and his family. I support the Pastor in every church related activity. For ease of explanation, I will describe them according to the following categories: 1) Delivery of the Word, 2) Counseling, and 3) Administration.
1. Delivery of the Word: Teaching-Preaching-Evangelism
For the past year and one half I have taught every Tuesday night. I
facilitate weekly prayer which consists of expounding a portion of scripture
followed by prayer in “prayer point” style. I also teach
during seminars, and my topic for the last seminar was “Effective
Communication in Evangelism.” A Teacher is who I am, so
I teach informally all the time.
I was interviewed by a television station several months ago and that short interview has proved to me an effective aid for evangelism. While I am walking down the street, it is not unusual for me to be stopped by someone who saw the program and wants to know how to get to the church.
2. Counseling
My ministry is healing and reconciliation and at least 30% of my overall
time is spent in counseling—listening and helping people find
solutions according to the Word.
We are open to the public so at any time, someone may come in for ministry—whether
they know the Lord or not at that time. The church has a reputation
for being a place where one can go for help. Some of our current members
were former drug addicts who came in and we fed them.
The Youth. As in any country, youths are looking for someone to listen to them—pay attention to their needs without judgment them individually. I fill in the communication gap between them and their parents. At times, the parents will even bring their children to talk to me. Several of the youth (in their early 20s) have brought their friends from university or from their jobs for me to minister to them, and several have been led to the Lord.
The Coffee Ministry. One of our members has a knack for meeting English speaking tourist and he invites them to the church for a cup of coffee and I minister to them. Typically they are backpackers, especially from Europe several have receive Christ. Sometimes the only thing we can do is offer them a cup of coffee and a piece of bread, pray for them and send them on their way. I serve a lot of coffee.
3. Administration
I am the only native English speaker in the congregation even though
other come from countries where the “official language”
may be English.
A. Leader, Office Staff and Maintenance. What does that mean? Good question. What I do under this heading is as follows:
B. Assistant to Women’s Group Leader
In this capacity, I disseminate information, take meeting minutes, and
when she is unavailable, I facilitate the meetings.
I am at the church 7 days a week, attend every service, all leadership meeting, and all choir rehearsals. I frequently am the first one to arrive and the one to lockup at night. In summary, I do whatever is needed at the time. I hope this helps.
As Vanessa asked me to prepare a monthly budget, I have prepared the following. It does not include any clothing allowance or entertainment (what’s that?!)

URGENT NEED FOR HELP!
November 8, 2007
Dear Friends,
“Shalom and Blessings” from the heart of Jerusalem! Once again, we thank you for your prayers and support in helping the many suffering Israeli victims of thousands of brutal acts of terrorism and war directed against our people.
We are challenged weekly with desperate pleas for help from victims and their families who face overwhelming difficulties as they struggle to survive their enormous losses. These struggles are especially true for the following individuals who cry out to The L-RD…and to us…for His mercy and help. Please prayerfully consider their desperate needs:
D’VORA BUCH STORY:
D’vora Buch, age 72, suffers severe pain from terminal cancer!
Given only a short period of time to live, she resides with her disabled
daughter who daily provides her with essential comfort and support.
Yet, both are unable to work and continually lack resources for pain
medicine, food, and bare essentials for daily life, as bills continues
to pile up.
The electric company has given them three more days (until Sunday) to pay $800 of delinquent bills before permanently terminating their service. This will prove fatal for D’vora with winter rapidly approaching.
In response to the Israel Army’s request for help, ‘Hands
of Mercy’ rushed to provide much needed housing repairs this past
summer, as well as helping to keep the bank from evicting them due to
delinquent mortgage payments. They now live daily on the bank’s
mercy and concerned friends like you to avoid being evicted.
“Thank You” for assisting us to extend G-D’s mercy
once again to D’vora, by helping provide for this “crisis
electric bill”…along with their “crisis need”
for food and long overdue housing payments!
CLICK HERE to read more about D'Vora Buch (PDF file).
AMNON ORR STORY:
Amnon Orr faces a critical crisis once again in his life! He must pay
by Sunday a bank/court judgment totaling $1,300 or have his only means
of transportation (an old car) repossessed. Amnon desperately needs
this vehicle due to the special therapy he must suffer each week following
his recent heart opperation. He is in much pain, cannot work, and struggles
to walk as he tries to provide for his family of five…three of
whom are recovering from critical injuries incurred six years ago in
a tragic Jerusalem suicide bombing.
We have become very close to Amnon these past years through our encouragement and assistance to overcome his many difficulties. Having repeatedly faced death now in his personal life and family, he has become a strong believer and knows his life and family are truly ‘gifts from The L-RD! Yet, with no car or money to buy food for his family, Amnon has humbaly come to us once again for aid! Amnon and his family are now praying to for ‘another Miracle’ in their lives to survive this current crisis; and our encouragement and faith to see it happen! Due to your support and prayers, the life of Amnon has become a true miracle and honor to G-D…as he says, “Praise the L-RD” for having been given this ‘Renewed Life To Live”!
Please pray how you and your congregation can help these two precious families overcome these great trials of their faith at this time! Both D’vora and Amnon’s victim-family stories are attached for your prayerfull consideration.

October 2007 Prayer Update
Dear Family and Friends,
As
we enter this Biblical New Year, we at Hands of Mercy would like to
express our great thankfulness for your faithful support…renewing
courage and hope to many needy Israeli soldier-families and victims
of terror throughout this Holy Land. Words cannot express our sincere
appreciation for all your prayers and sacrifice, helping to restore
"a future and a hope" to these precious families.
May "The Almighty One of Israel" abundantly bless you and your family for all you have done, bringing honor to His Name in the ongoing redemption of Israel!
Our world is deeply threatened by the ever increasing reach of Islam and the peril of war, political deception and economic crisis. Forces of evil are uniting to deceive our leaders and radically change our world. Although it is obvious there is true reason to fear, we must never forget that our G-D is all powerful, and has promised to send his victorious Messiah for all who remain faithful to Him.
We
at Hands of Mercy continue to work "tirelessly" in the lives
of many families throughout Israel; working closely with other respected
Jewish and Christian compassion organizations to truly make a constructive
difference.
By sharing the reality of Messiah's love in practical ways...with gifts of food and financial assistance, we are helping to meet crucial elements in the survival and struggle of these special families and precious children…and strengthening them to build faith in our L-RD’s love for the difficult days ahead.
Music therapy and compassion continue to bring much encouragement and joy in life’s struggle for many here in the Land. In direct answer to prayer, healing and hope as well as G-D's presence and renewed “shalom” are experienced in a new and personal way.
Adoption-Sponsorship
program connections continue to be a life line to many families who
are struggling to survive through long painful months of recovery. Our
outstretched hands become strengthened by yours, as we personally share
in the lives and redemption of these deeply receptive souls.
From the bottom of our hearts we thank you for the faithful stand you have taken with us to continue in this crucial ministry as we continue to reach out with love and mercy to many who are here throughout Israel. Together may we continue to bring tangible expressions of G-D's healing and hope during these very challenging days…in the dawn of his Victorious Messiah!
Always indebted…

"A DAY IN OUR LIVES"
Yesterday was a normal day of ministry which lead us to visit the homes of some special high-need victim families…all who share the similar challenge of trying to rebuild their lives following the devastating effects of terror.
The David Shiloh Family:
David
and Ariella Shiloh and family are pleasantly secular with "in your
face Chuzpah", which often challenges us to stop what we are doing
to find ways to help them solve the many crisises of their family! They
quickly let us know their problems, and humorously, our responsibility
to find ways to help solve them! Yet due to the tragidy they suffered,
we are honored to be there for them when they call!
David
Shiloh was returning from work four years ago on his bicycle in a dangerous
border community of Jerusalem called Pisgat-Zev, due to the meager income
he was making from his job. He saw four young Arab men purposely moving
to block the secluded narrow trail on which he was riding along the
border. Forced to stop, two of the men began beating him with their
fists, while the others stabbed him with knives and screwdrivers. Fearing
discovery, they left him severely bleeding and for dead. Soon some cars
with Palestinian passengers passed nearby, brandishing victory signs.
After a great deal of time, another Arab stopped and called for an ambulance.
Rushed to the hospital, David was treated for many stab wounds on his
shoulders, back shoulders and in his stomach. A knife had to be removed
by the doctors which penetrated into David's body. After weeks of healing
painful healing, he was released and sent home for recovery.
David
has since had much difficulty keeping a job due to his extensive wounds,
scar tissue and poor mobility. Climbing stairs to their apartment even
requires painful his effort. The government remains unwilling to award
him appropriate compensation for his loss, making it impossible for
David to help much to provide for his family. Regretfully times of deep
depression result! His wife Ariella works cleaning offices, struggling
at minimum wage to pay the rent and keep her family of six with food
on the table.
In
spite of their severe difficulties, David and Ariella maintain a sense
of humor; loving to make people laugh. They struggle hard to live and
overcome their great loss, expressing deep appreciation for all the
help we have been blessed to give! Please pray sincerely for this family
- that G-D will help us place an effective industry project within their
home –and faithful witness of His deep love and mercy to heal
their damaged lives!
The Avi and Rosa Family:
The family of Avi and Rosa are quite the opposite, being deeply religious and noticeably reclusive following a tragic terrorist event he survived a few years ago while on Bus-425 in Jerusalem's suburb of French Hill. This day regretfully changed in their lives forever!
Following the attack, Avi remains a very broken man…depending
on obvious strong strength, courage and faithfulness of his wife who
humbly provides for him and their five sweet children. Due to the pain
of their loss, they asked to remain unanimous.
Packed with commuters, the morning bus to Jerusalem provided an easy
target for a terrorist! While momentarily pausing at a stop, an Arab
gunman suddenly ran into the street from a nearby house with an M-16
automatic rifle and began shooting at the bus loaded with commuters.
Obsessed to by death, the terrorist emptied four clips and hundreds
of bullets into the bus of defenseless passengers before being finally
killed by a soldier. When all was over, two people lay dead more than
50 injured for life, including Avi.
Those tragic seconds were like a bad dream to Avi and those trapped in the bus. Four bullets penetrated his legs and body, accompanied by many jagged pieces of shrapnel ripped from the sides of the bus. When the ambulance arrived, Avi was rushed to the hospital where he underwent hours of surgery to save his life. After a few critical weeks, Avi began 1 1⁄2 years of very painful physical and psychological recovery.
That tragic day, his wife Rosa was 4-months pregnant with their fifth child - suffering deep trauma upon hearing of the incident on the radio, and knowing her husband was on that bus. Admitted also to the hospital, she was told by the medical staff that the child she was carrying was no longer alive. Rosa was encouraged by them to abort the baby yet Rosa refused. Three days, no life was detected - but through G-D’s mercy, the child's heartbeat was then miraculously heard. The baby is now a healthy 5 year old boy named Avi-Hi (My Father is /of Life).
Before the attack, Avi was able to provide well for his family, working at a fruit juice kiosk in Jerusalem. With limited mobility, he now lives with his pain and bouts of fear and severe depression. This makes it difficult for Avi to even leave his house! He receives a meager 800 shekels ($200) a month from the government for his disability, which causes his wife to clean houses to pay the bills and put poorly feed the family. As a result of the pain they share, they and the children are very close and dedicated to the family. Through quiet faith in G-D, they say, “Bless His Name” when asked how they are doing. Wishing to remain quietly private, we are seeking for ways to help them as much possible - yet would be honored for your prayers and assistance - should The L-RD place them upon your hearts. Then with His healing, they will desire to know those He has sent in answer to their prayers!
Thank you for your help!
Soldiers and victims come to us daily with enormous personal problems to solve...to find someone who cares, will listen, and share their pain... and hopefully find help to solve the looming crisis that appears will destroy their delicate lives. Some have huge financial needs; others come for encouragement; and others prayer...knowing that we are believers and often find G-D's love in answer to our prayers. So thank-you once again for sharing with us in this very sensitive ministry....as we continue to bring the light of His face to these precious victim-families of Israel!
Indebted for your help...

A section of destitute pupils with their teachers poses next to their mud walled shack classrooms in Rhonda slums (Nakuru Town) in Kenya.
Smart Nakuru (SHG) provides these children with basic quality education. They are not required to pay school fees. So far the pre-school has 35 destitute children in need of basics such as food and clothing. They currently look for SPONSORS. One orphan needs a monthly support of US $30.

Smart Nakuru early childhood development (ECD) volunteer busy teaching her pupils. Unfortunately, they lack learning materials, books, toys, school uniforms, etc. Due to the financial constraints facing the ministry currently, we have not been able to provide monthly Take-Home ration for at least 60 orphans and their care givers for several months.

Pupils waiting for their teacher to open school pit latrine. The pre-school is yet to build modern pit latrines and classrooms and requires support from well-wishers.

Pupils doing their African singing games at the school compound. We only admit orphans who have lost both parents. The school expects to give the orphans a chance to fit in the society and prover their potentiality.
May the Lord bless you richly.

NAKURU-KENYA (EA)
Tel. 254-723-780566
Over the years the once blooming Kenyan economy have gradually and steal highly deteriorated succumbing most of its citizens to live below poverty line.(living below a Dollar)
The poor constitute more than half population of Kenya at least one in every two Kenyan is poor.
Their income has always been appetence compared to the many mouths it has to serve. This has left most families unable to sustainable afford to the basic daily needs a condition that leads to high mortality rate due to poor health by lack of enough money to afford proper health facilities.
HIV/AIDS pandemic is also another deadly source that has ripped Kenyan very potential family breadwinners. Smart Nakuru has embarked on program to combat HIV/AIDS through sensitization advocacy and behavior change among the youth and the community at large.
Incidences of HIV/AIDS transmission sexually transmitted disease and Teen – pregnancies have risen to a alarming rates in Rhonda Slums in Kenya . HIV/AIDS is with us in real tangible way and its prevention must be practiced less in words and more in attitude and actions.
The problem affects youth between 15 – 35 years of age and affects Kenya at large as scores of contributions fully of the country social and economy development.
Due to lack of availability of sexually health information, youth are not well prepared to protect themselves from HIV/AIDS infections, Sexually transmitted disease and unplanned teen – pregnancy.
KIMANI( 20 yrs).
Kimani is a young man aged 20 yrs,he told us due to poverty in Rhonda Slums most of the youth can not continue their education beyond primary school. As most of their parents have since died or remaining with one parent who is jobless and can not afford to buy food for themselves and their children.
ONYANGO (57 yrs)
Onyango is an old man his wife died in the year 2000 leaving behind 11 children. he has been in the slum for the last 40 years.
When I asked him to define poverty,he said that poverty is me, look at me!look at my cloths, I didn’t have anything this morning and I am not sure if I will eat anything to-day my children are not in school and should they fall ill, I can not afford to take them to the hospital.
COMMENT.
There is need to provide small revolving loan (funds) Micro-credit
to the widows, widowers and disadvantage people living in the said slum
– this will engage them in income generation activities (IGA)
that would promote self reliance and sustenance in order to reduce poverty.
CONCLUTION:
Most of the youth we visited are not attending school and currently
are not receiving adequate sexually health education. The lack of continuity
HIV/AIDS workshops in the slum is a major hindrance SmartNakuru is currently
seeking funding to organize a workshops/seminars in one of the school
in the slum to promote abstinence especially those attending the primary
schools.
Out-of- school youth have very little opportunities to sexual to access sexual health education. Many youth who leave primary school do not continue on to the secondary (High school) and such lose access to any health education provided in high schools. Currently there is lack of outreach programs in Rhonda slums to meet the needs of these youths.
For these youths we are looking for Funds to set up a vocational training center come next year to equip them with useful skills which will help them to be economically independent and self reliance to the future.
(Our pilot project will be Girls Orphans, later Boys Orphans)
We were requesting for friends/Organizations, Churches, ministries to
send us used or new sewing machine, knitting machines Iron boxes,
used / New Computers, small grants for these girls after completing
their courses textiles materials etc.
At the Center, we will provide them with adequate information regarding
HIV/AIDS by creation of educational materials such as printed pamphlets,

Zimbabwean Herbert is 27 years old - born in 1980 when his nation became independent. Talking to the BBC News website by telephone, he reflected on the ups and downs of living under President Robert Mugabe.
I am not excited about the independence anniversary celebrations.
Why should I
be?
I have nothing to celebrate.
I am buying bread at 6,000 Zimbabwean dollars ($0.34 at current black market exchange rate) for a loaf and two litres of cooking oil for 120,000 Zimbabwean dollars ($6.70).
I was only taking 500,000 Zimbabwean dollars ($28) home a month. But even that is no more. As of yesterday, I was laid off from my clerical job.
And now, because this is Zimbabwe, I know that I am not going to get another job.
I live in a rented flat with my wife and family and so I am still thinking of what I can do to carry on living and paying the rent. Maybe I will sell some of my furniture.
The whole Zimbabwe situation is not pleasing at the moment. Not at all. Everything costs so much, most have so little and everywhere there are secret police. We are not free anymore.
I was born in Mutare [eastern city on border with neighbouring Mozambique] but moved to Harare a few years back to find work after my parents passed away.
I remember how beautiful our country was in the 80s.
Finding gold
My gran used to give me 50 Zimbabwean cents to go buy bread, butter and milk - all that for so little! It was easy to live well.
And when we were at junior school, five cents in your pocket could get you sweets to last the whole week. I tell you, finding a five cent piece on the pavement was like finding gold!
Now if you see a 1,000 Zimbabwean dollar note on the floor, you just keep walking. You don't stop. It is nothing - no-one will even pick it up.
Back then, after independence, we all loved President Mugabe. But now we don't. The only ones that do are those who benefit from his rule.
I don't mind if Zanu-PF stays as the ruling party, I really don't. I just want there to be change at the top.
Mugabe is already a hero and he always will be but there is nothing more for him to do. He must just step down.
When he was prime minister everything was fine.
But when his first wife, Sally, died, he started going the other way. That women loved our country - she did so much for us.
A lot has changed. And it all started then.
Now, our country is dead. I really want a better Zimbabwe.
Dear World,
I am a 16 year old person living in Zimbabwe. I think the time has come for a more direct appeal, and so I am writing to you, the world. Maybe, just maybe, there might be someone out there who can help us...
It's tough here now. The inflation rate is so high that if you don't change money within 6 hours you could get half the amount of foreign currency that you would have originally received.
We're starving no w; people die around us. In the last year alone at least ten people associated personally with my family have died despite the fact that they were only middle-aged. Other people dont make it to middle age. Some dont even make it past childhood.
Our once-proud nation is on its knees. We flee or die. This beautiful, bountiful once-rich land has become a living hell. We have dealt with it until now; we have made a plan. That was the Zimbabwean motto: "MAKE A PLAN".
But now we cant make a plan. Were too tired, too broken, too bankrupt. We cant afford life, and life does not cost much, not really. We cannot afford to eat, we cannot afford to drink, and we cannot afford to make mistakes, because if we do we die. We dont have the capital to support ourselves, and those few who do, have to deal with the horror of watching their friends and family fall into absolute poverty as they cannot afford to help them.
We're waiting desperately for a great hand to pick us up out of the dirt because at the moment we are outnumbered by Fate herself, and so we close our eyes and pray. We have fought for too long, and have been brought to breaking point. We simply stand, heads down, and bear it. Our spirit has gone; we are defeated. After a valiant struggle of over fifteen years, we have been broken.
There is no will left, no spirit. Like a horse that has been beaten until it cannot fight anymore; we are the same, and, like that horse, we stand dusty, scarred and alone, with dried blood on our sides and lash marks along our flanks. Our ribs too stand out; our hide is also dull. Our eyes are glazed, our throats are parched, and our knees struggle to support us so that we stand with splayed legs to bear the brunt of the next beating, too dejected even to whimper...
This is my plea. The thought of picking ourselves up again is sickening; one can only take so many blows before oblivion is reached, and we are teetering on the rim of the b ottomless void. One more push will be the end of us all...
There must be someone out there who can do something. There must be someone out there who cares! We are a destroyed nation, and the world sits back and watches, pretending they cannot hear our cries. I appeal to you all...
PLEASE HELP US!

"I want to surrender my life to God. I want to have a mission. A mission to spread his word, and use my gift that he gave me to do his good will. I know that God created me for a purpose. So, I ask a prayer to help me discover a purpose God have given me."
"May G-d reveal to you your true purpose and calling in Him according to His will and purpsoe for your life He has given you. We stand in confidence that even now our L-rd is revealing Himself to you as your Savior and as your life giver. As you submit to His will He is revealing Himself and His will for you.
