"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised." — Luke 4:18

Prayer Update
May, 2007

Our Dear Friends,

War is rampant throughout the world, and rumors of war are permeating this Land of Israel. Media broadcasts, newspapers, and Israeli internet sites are filled with predictions of an upcoming war. Many presume Hizbullah will attack again this summer, or they foresee Syria engaging us in battle over the Golan Heights, others predict an assault by many nations longing for the demise of Israel. G-D alone knows if war will come. We at Hands of Mercy pray, whether there will be war or not, for the protection of this Land and people, for wisdom for our leaders, for strength and courage for our military, and for G-D’s mercy to spare lives, restore hope, and turn hearts to search for Him. We pray also that we will be strong in every emergency, that we fulfill our purpose in the lives of the victims and soldiers, and that we respond obediently wherever G-D has granted us the privilege to help.

We will continue to seriously consider what is happening in the larger arena of the Middle East, but our hearts are now, and always will be, with those who daily live with the pain and dreadful effects of what war and terrorism can bring.

Below is the account of one incident in the center of Jerusalem that has changed the life of our close friend Natan Ma’alumi forever. The story was written in 2003, soon after the terrorist bombing took place immediately below our new office window. Since then, Natan has lived with continual pain in his abdomen and a constant ringing in his ears from the intense concussion of the bomb. He has undergone surgery to repair the damage, but is still in incessant pain.

Natan needs finances to underwrite an expensive operation on his ears to stop the agonizing ringing, yet struggles even to pay his monthly rent. He also is heavily burdened by thousands of dollars of indebtedness from his last stomach surgery. In addition, Natan needs much financial assistance to fight to restore full government disability benefits.

Natan works hard with our “Home Industry Program” when his health permits, to provide for his family. In addition to caring for their three young children, his wife Helen earns a meager wage cleaning homes. Unfortunately, their income is far below what is needed to provide for their struggling household.

Natan’s needs are immediate and severe. Hands of Mercy is praying for him and doing what we can to give him hope. Please, join us to bless our good and dear friend and his family with prayer and help through his long and painful time of recovery.

Indebted …
Ye’shi Reinhardt, Hands of Mercy
