God bless you!
Welcome to our monthly update.  We are so thrilled to give you an update on the construction progress.   We  are also excited about the weekly Sunday school classes at the finca (the property).  There are many exciting things happening with the ministry; and we will continue to keep you updated on all of them.
Casa de La Esperanza
The construction for the House of Hope (Casa de la Esperanza) is under way.  We have staked out the land, the foundation is being laid, and the skeletal structure is the next step to the project.  The contractor has let us know that the project will take 5 months to completion.  We are energized to see the vision for housing street children is so close to becoming a reality.  We will post pictures on our website to show the progress of the construction.

We are looking for people who are willing to dedicate 6 months or longer to join us in this mission in  Venezuela.  Please contact us via email concerning this opportunity of a life time.
Ministry Update
Mission Trips
We have mission teams scheduled to join us in June, July and October.  While they are here they will participate in VBS, ministering in the hospitals, ranchos, and barrios, as well as various agricultural and construction projects.

Prayer Vigil
We would like for our supporters to join us in a prayer vigil for 2008.  We had such a tremendous response last year, that we would like to have another prayer vigil this year.  We are asking you to pray with us between the hours of 12 midnight - 6:00a.m.  Mark and I pray from 3:00 a.m. until 4:00 a.m.  Witchcraft, Satan worshippers, and Satanists are prevalent in the area surrounding the finca.  Actually the area is known as the witchcraft capital of this region.  We know that witches, Satanists and the like do most of their work between the hours of midnight and 6:00 a.m.  But greater is HE that is in us, than he that is in the world!  You can find a detailed list of prayer request on our website; Prayer Requests.  We greatly appreciate each and everyone who will join us in this endeavor.
Food for Thought
Our son, Mark, Jr is 12 years old.  He was asked in his Sunday school class to write about obedience versus disobedience.  The lesson covered Deuteronomy 28, where Moses tells the children of Israel what would happen to them if they obeyed the laws God had set before them, and what the consequences would be for disobedience.   The following article is what Mark, Jr. wrote.

Obedience
The difference between obedience and disobedience can prove fatal.  When you obey a God fearing person, there will be good results; but when you disobey, bad things may happen.  When your mom says "go to bed", and you obey, you'll enjoy the next day and you will not be tired.  But, when you disobey, you'll be sorry because you won't wake up on time.  So, even if you have a little fun, in the long run it is foolish.  If we can learn to think about the future, we will be able to resist the temptation of now.  So, obedience in the long run is so much wiser than disobedience.

God's Choice

We are thankful for God's Hand of provision and His guidance.  The contractor who is working with us is an answer to our prayers and we are confident that he is God's choice for this project.  When we learned that we were moving to Venezuela to build a home for the street children, we knew that we would build according to code.  When we learned that the codes of Venezuela are much different than those in the USA, we made a decision to build according to U.S. codes.  We are referring mainly to electrical and plumbing codes.

Our initial thoughts were that we would kindly instruct the contractor to build according to the U.S. codes; however, we did not want to be offensive and thereby realized this task would be extremely difficult.  But God in His infinite wisdom knows what is ultimately the best plan.

God has provided us with a contractor who not only knows about the U.S. codes but who was also the key supervisor in the building of ALL the McDonald's here in Venezuela!  And the contractor told us, that he will build everything according to code!!!  In addition to this awesome move of God, the contractor is one of the brothers in the church we've been attending for the past three and a half years; however, we did not know he was a retired contractor, but God knew.

Prior to the start of the contruction project we asked the pastor if he knew of an honest contractor and he said, "of course!"  He told us about brother Juan.  Juan has agreed to oversee the project pro bono as a gift to the ministry!!!  We serve an awesome God!  We praise God for His provision, guidance and His impeccable choice.
We enjoy updating you monthly on what is going with the ministry in Venezuela.  Thank you so much for your prayers, your emails and your financial support!!
